Jells Park Primary School was founded in 1979 in order to cater to the ever-growing region that is Wheelers Hill, within the limits that are part of Monash Council. The name was derived from the parklands that surround Jells Park and is situated on Petronella Avenue, just a distance from the iconic Wheelers Hill Hotel.

The land around Wheelers Hill were used for farming, particularly Pig Farms and Orchards. The proximity of Jells Park and the Dandenong Creek (Tanjenong Koot) provides a habitat that is full of native plants and trees as well as a wide variety of wildlife, all located in the suburbs.

Prior to settlement, these were the land belonging to those of Wurundjeri tribes from the Kulin nation who tended to the natural environment for more than thirty years.

The school was originally constructed around a central area, that was surrounded by the majestic Elm trees. The courtyard was surrounded by the main modular administration building, which also included the staffroom, toilets as well as the GP room, library, and art room. The rest within the garden were surrounded by 2 blocks of mobile classrooms, which accommodated more than 200 students, as well as the oval. As the school expanded, the main "senior" building was built in 1985. The school also added portable classrooms on the grounds throughout time to accommodate growing population of Wheelers Hill area and enrolments who came to it from outskirts of Mulgrave, Scoresby and Rowville. The next big improvement was the gymnasium that was fully-sized that was completed in 2011 after the school's population grew to more than 500 students.

The school began its existence under the direction under the direction of principal Geoff Higgs and had a staff of only 16. In its 40-year time span, Jells Park PS has had only 8 Principals and the longest-serving one was Gillian Brookes from 2003 to 2015. The school has now grown to include 50 employees and 550 students.

The school colors have always been blue and red There were two logos used during the years. The logo that was used in the beginning between 1979 and 2001 can be seen here. the present logo has been used since 2001.

Their Facilities

It is located in the lush center of Wheelers Hill, just a distance from the biggest urban park of Melbourne, Jells Park Primary School is blessed with great facilities, including huge outdoor spaces as well as a number of recently renovated structures.

Administration Building

The Administration Building recently underwent significant improvements. They were fortunate enough to receive a large donation from their state's government to complete the majority of the work. The Administration building is home to the principal office, the OSHClub, the largest general-purpose room, a staff room, toilets, art room, as well as the library.

Even though it's over forty years of age, it is new and welcoming.

The Early Learning Centre (ELC)

They have an Early Learning Centre is a specifically designed space that provides their Foundation students with the most optimal environment to enjoy their first year at school. There are separate learning areas and large community areas where students throughout the year is able to gather.

Students who are in the ELC have access to bathrooms for juniors.

Junior School & Courtyard

Their Level 2 school is situated in the heart of their junior school. Recently renovated with natural light common areas as well as large areas for learning, it is the ideal place for children to grow and grow. The school's buildings for juniors are located on two sides of a huge green courtyard that forms the center of the whole school.

Gym & Canteen

Jells Park Primary School was fortunate to be awarded money for a brand-new gymnasium structure as part of the US government's stimulus program. The building was completed in the year 2011. It is an excellent resource for the school. It features offices, meeting rooms and a canteen, along with an entire basketball court.

Senior Building

In the Senior Building, you will find Levels 4 and 5 and is a large, light spacious spaces that are suited specifically to the demands of the older students.

Students can easily walk onto the oval, and individual lockers are located along the corridor inside.

Grounds

The outside areas have two playgrounds that are separate for youngsters and the other for more experienced students. They also have an all-weather oval that has cricket nets, artificial turf as well as a fitness track basketball courts and additional outdoor areas for children to play in.
