Livingstone Primary School
Following a revision to the Melbourne Metropolitan Planning Scheme in 1970, the idea for the development of Livingstone Primary School emerged. In essence, the Vermont South neighborhood was rezoned for residential use. The City of Nunawading's Town Clerk, Mr. Ted Jane, urged the council to cultivate a "heart" for the community. This led to the area that the Vermont South Shopping Centre now calls home being set aside. The council convinced the Education Department to buy the 20 acres of land directly to the north of the proposed Centre for educational purposes in order to advance the idea of the "heart." The council submitted a request for a "joint development with the Education Department in the provision of community facilities in Vermont South" to the minister of education in 1974. On March 26, 1976, a public gathering was called at Vermont South Special School.
The Vermont South Planning Group was created as a result of this meeting. On April 26th, 1976, the Vermont South Special School hosted the first meeting of the Livingstone Primary School Interim Committee. A committee was established with members from Parkmore Primary School and the Department of Education. This committee saw the completion of its work in October 1976. On April 12th, 1977, construction on the school began, and by mid-May, concrete had been poured. The official opening was held on March 31, 1979, by John Richardson, Member for Forest Hill, after all Grades had moved in by July 21st, 1978.
Learning
The Learning to Learn Program is put into place at Livingstone Primary School at the start of each new academic year. The main goal of this program, which lasts for roughly 6 to 9 days throughout the entire school, is to work with the students in all classes to establish a clear purpose for their learning and the commitment to collaborate to create joyful, secure, and productive classrooms and schools through the school values.
The program's central goal is to help all kids reach their full academic, intellectual, interpersonal, and emotional potential by teaching them the five learning behaviors that lead to success.
The Learning to Learn Program encourages its students to develop into effective, reflective learners by utilizing a variety of tools and techniques. Together, students and teachers create a learning plan for their particular class, set class and personal goals, develop dispositions for thinking and learning, participate in group decision-making, and cultivate happy, positive relationships.
Throughout their primary school years, they want their students to gradually acquire a wide range of learning skills.
The main goals of Learning To Learn are to give every child the building blocks for success and social and emotional well-being in school, at work, and in the world in the future.
