Information about The Monash Men’s Shed
The principal goal that the Monash men’s Shed is to enhance the well-being and health of the men in the local neighborhood by providing a venue for men to gather and engage in a variety of activities that are of interest to them.
Through providing men with a venue and a reason to be to be involved in the community, it can help in reducing the social isolation many feel when they are no longer employed in a professional capacity. When they leave work because of redundancy, retirement or health issues, as well as some other reason, huge portion of men report that their social life is affected because of it, which can lead to loneliness and more serious health problems like addiction to drugs, depression or even suicidal thoughts.
“Men do not talk face-to-face they speak shoulder-to-shoulder.” It is the ethos for the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) which, while not the case for everyone, it is a premise that is universally accepted and is the core method to the Monash Men’s Shed. It is about bringing men together to share their experiences and experiences that lead to friendship, camaraderie, and mutual assistance. It’s about having fun, having fun, and it gives purpose to the members.
The Sheds benefit extend beyond individual members, as members collaborate in conjunction with schools, charities, as well as other non-profit groups in projects that make an impactful contribution to local communities. The Shed also has the opportunity to mentor others. Men in their twenties can be a part of those older and can share a variety of experiences and knowledge. Both benefit from this exchange and interaction.
Practical activities like woodwork make up a large component of the Shed, there is more to it than the woodworking. Food, day trips cards, meals, art walking, yoga, models trains and lead lighting are all part of the timetable. If there is sufficient interest from the members in any event and someone is willing to organize it, it can be added to the timetable. The Shed is a member of the members, and its members decide what happens in the Shed.
