Vermont Junior Football Club

Vermont Junior Football Club

The Vermont Juniors' mission is to give local youth the chance to play Australian Rules Football in a fun and safe setting, improve their health and wellbeing through organized sport, and provide a route for players to join the Senior Club.

The Vermont Juniors will, at all times, endeavour to provide for the health, welfare and wellbeing of its players, supporters and spectators.  This aim will be achieved by promoting and developing the following values and objectives:

  • A sense of social and community values
  • An environment to nurture the physical and mental development of our youth
  • Respect for officials, opposition players and supporters
  • The virtues of fair and disciplined play
  • Opportunities for everyone

They will be realised by providing:

  • Competent coaches and assistants
  • Adequate facilities, amenities and equipment
  • Supervised social functions encouraging family participation
  • Regular communication and consultation with players and parents
  • Active leadership and management

Early on, as they learn how to use their individual skills and the value of working as a team, their focus is on participation. They take pride in making sure that their players are developed to the fullest extent possible, even as they get older and the game gets more intense.

The Vermont Junior Football Club was founded in 1920, and on May 7, 1921, it played its first game in front of a crowd.  The Vermont Juniors started out small with just one team, but have since expanded significantly. In 2018, there were over 530 players competing on 24 teams in all age divisions.  The Vermont Juniors entered three girl teams in the Eastern Region Girls League in 2016, and by 2018, they had five teams and more than 120 players.  For all the girls who play at Vermont, the Senior Women's team that was introduced in 2018 has given them a future path.  The Vermont Juniors won the Eastern Football League's Best Conducted Junior Club award once more in 2018.

Even though the Junior Club has its own Committee, they have a close bond with the Senior Club. The Big Brother Program is run by senior players who oversee a training session for each grade, and the Under 17.5 and Under 19 collaborate closely as part of a transition program with the Senior Club. Every Saturday, a large number of young athletes and their families descend on Vermont Recreational Reserve to cheer on the senior teams.

They are a family-oriented club that places a big emphasis on participation and growth. Throughout the year, the Vermont Junior Football Club hosts a variety of social events, such as family nights, which give players and parents a wonderful chance to socialize.

The Vermont Junior Football Club's outstanding parental and fan support is ultimately responsible for their success. Great people make Great clubs, right?
